Fosdem
Just like about every year…
We’re going with at least 8 people from #eth0, so that should be quite entertaining.
HAR2009 Publishes its CfP
HAR2009, the four-yearly Dutch outdoor technology-conference has published the Call for Papers. I’ll include it verbatim here:
From the ancient days long before the first wayback-machine snapshot, hackers have a track record for appropriating technology that was meant for something completely different and putting it to alternative uses. And every four years since 1989, the international hacker community has descended upon The Netherlands in great numbers for a conference that focuses on contemporary and future issues surrounding technology and its social and political consequences. One reason that these conferences have been successful is the wide range of participants: from students, amateurs and aficionados to researchers, scientists and entrepreneurs who are recognized as some of the best in their respective fields.

Visiting Linux-Kongress.de
This week I’ll be at the Linux Kongress in Hamburg Germany. It’s a quite small congress, with 2 technical tracks which go quite in-depth into kernel stuff.
There doesn’t seem to be any official WiFi here that’s free to use, so I have been using Iodyne dns tunnels, and I’m not using an event accesspoint that’s put up by the GUUG guys.
My hotel only has paid wifi as well, but I couldn’t get Iodine working there. I did notice that ping traffic is allowed and let trough, so I’ve setup a ping tunnel now, using icmptx, which I’ll be testing tonight, when I’m back at the hotel.
Yesterday evening after I arrived in Hamburg I walked around town a bit, looking for a nice bar to have a drink… There aren’t too many near the reeperbahn (mostly just private clubs, sex joints and hookers…) but I finally found a nice Irish bar, with an unhealthy supply of Guinness and Murphy’s
Update: I was back at the hotel, and the pingtunnel (icmptx) works over wayport wifi

Froscon talk well received
The proxytunnel talk Dag and I did at Froscon 2008 was very well received by the froscon crowd. Not bad for my first conference-talk

I also really enjoyed myself at Froscon, and will most likely be back there next year, either as a speaker, or just as a visitor.
Going to FOSDEM 2008
Tomorrow I’ll be heading to Brussels for this years Fosdem conference. I’ll be hanging out with some people from eth-0.nl and some of my collegues will actually be going to fosdem as well.
Hope to meet some old friends there, and maybe get time to release a new proxytunnel version (as the last fosdems also spawned new releases, and I’ve got some patches prepared)

24C3
I’m currently in Berlin, visiting 24C3. I haven’t seen any lectures yet, but will be looking forward to Rob’s lecture about the dutch voting computers which should start soon.
I arrived yesterday around 17:00 after a uneventful and quick drive. More updates later this week, as this year there’s even working wifi in the hostel.
EuroBSDCon, Open Source BBQ, T-Dose and NLUUG
The vacations are over, the conferences are starting again… This weekend is EuroBSDCon in Denmark (which I won’t be attending 
, but a group of snow colleages is going). I will be visiting the Dutch nl.linux.org Open Source BBQ which is also this weekend (saturday to be exact).
Next month (October 13+14) brings us the 2nd edition of T-Dose, which I’d like to visit this year.
After that it’s time again for the NLUUG conference, November 7th in Amsterdam (new location), which will celebrate 25 years of NLUUG history. And before you know it we’re back at the next CCC conference (late December) and Fosdem (late February)

LinuxTAG.de — day 1
So after a last minute party (sim, grats with the new job) last night (and mono and tara are nice pubs) and therefore a really really late night, I got up somewhat early this morning (but not as early as originally planned) and packed for LinuxTAG 
in Wiesbaden, Germany . At around 8:00 I was ready to leave home. I arrived in Wiesbaden and entered the conference building (Rhein-Main-Hallen) around 12:30, which gave me more then enough time to register, look around a bit and attend the first lecture (Kismet and GPSDrive) at 13:00.
After the kismet lecture I went for a talk with the OpenBSD and LPI guys and then decided to check the wifi-connection. Everything seems to work, though I am missing some routes towards my home-box. Today aren’t too many interesting (and english) lectures, so maybe I’ll go check out the city somewhat… From what I’ve seen it’s beatiful, and I’m dead-smack in the city-center (parking hell). The train-station here is breathtaking. I’ll be heading over to N’s place later this evening to crash there… thanx N.
