I’m heading for easterhegg this friday, Topina, Bugblue and Tla will also be going there. It’s in Cologne, Germany so it’s only just across the border. Don’t expect me to give any coherant answers to questions untill at least tuesday 🙂
Update 21/03: Ok… I arrived at EH2008, met Bug, Topina and Tla and some other people from previous con’s. The wifi is up, I checked into my hotel, which was pretty decent for the price, and I saw a bit of the city while walking along the Rhine. Haven’t seen any lectures or workshops yet, but I don’t expect I’ll see that many anyway.
More later… maybe
I’m currently in Berlin, visiting 24C3. I haven’t seen any lectures yet, but will be looking forward to Rob’s lecture about the dutch voting computers which should start soon.
I arrived yesterday around 17:00 after a uneventful and quick drive. More updates later this week, as this year there’s even working wifi in the hostel.
So, CCC Camp 2007 is over, I’m back to work for a few days already, time for a write-up. The entire event had very warm and humid weather. It was mostly dry accept saturday, when the entire field changed into a olympic swimming-pool.
Deckard, Flar and me helped Antarez and Geck0 set-up their tent somewhere deep in the night, after they had to relocate. In the end they got a very nice spot just underneath a large aluminum airplane, giving them some shade.
Most time during the week was spent hanging around the campsite talking to people, having drinks and generally looking for shade/cool areas. The hangars were ideal locations, because they remained quite cool, due to them being covered by a few meters of dirt. We were very glad that we brought along a small cooler to keep our supply of beer, water and coke cold… (It’s now sitting in my computer-room)
There were some interesting projects going on, including building brainmachines, remote-control helicopters, various webcam projects, weather-ballons and light-installations. There was even a project involving light emitting algea, although I think that project didn’t quite turn out the way it was meant to.
Even though in the beginning everything didn’t go exactly as planned, and I heard a lot of complaining I think in the end we all had a lot of fun. Next time we might do it completely different, but I’m sure we’ll all be there again.
(plans for next time include fixxing either a camper, caravan or truck of some sorts, just so we don’t have to bother with tents, and having more space to bring stuff)
So… Flar, Deckardt and me have arrived at CCC-Camp after a week in Berlin City. The hostel was nice, but the wifi stopped working after wednesday, and we never again got decent internet after that. Also the washing-machine wasn’t working very good, so when we decided to do a laundry run before heading out to ccc-camp we ended up with a pile of wet clothes (but clean).
We left the hostel this morning and after a trip to the local bakery we left for Finowfurt, we got there around 10:40 and then proceeded with a walk around the campsite to pick a suitable location for our tents. We ended up building our tents somewhere between some trees, so we could at least get some shade during the day. After setting up our tents we headed back to the village for a short shopping trip, buying large amounts of water, juice and coke. We also got some Berliner Kindl (beer), but had to conclude that the variant we bought was absolutely disgusting.
I’ve spotted most of the people I knew that were coming and have gotten my bearings as to where to find everything.
It’s luckily cooled down a bit now, after we had some light rain (after a week of very hot and humid weather here in Berlin)
We’ll see what else comes along, so far we haven’t attended any lectures or demo’s yet, but there is more then enough happening around here.
At least I have a decent internet connection again, and i’ve got voip running, you can call me on +49 30 8020858 3662 or sip:email@example.com
So, it’s summertime again, time for festivals, hacker-camps and a well-needed vacation. I still have a few days of work to go, but will be leaving for Berlin august 1st. I’ll be staying in the Heart Of Gold hostel in the center of Berlin for a week, seeing the sights and partying in this nice city. Later that week I’ll probably hang around and help a bit with the build-up of CCC-Camp and then stay there till Sunday the 12th, because unfortunately I have to be back at work on monday ;(
I know Flar and Deckardt are also in Berlin the week before the Camp, and i’ll meet up with lots more at the Camp (Geck0, Antarez, Buzz, BugBlue, Tla, Elisa, …)
Anyone have any suggestions for places to visit in Berlin, or parties and bars I should visit… This is the first time visiting Berlin that I have a whole week without any other activities, so I plan to make the best of it and see some stuff I didn’t get around to the previous years… comment below 😉
