This week I spent my days at eth-0.nl, a new but very nice outdoor lanparty, organised by KillerCow and friends in a nice location near Wieringerwerf, Netherlands. As usual when you plan an outdoor lanparty you can guarantee lots of rain… which was present this time, as usual. The partytent village I was staying in with Buzz, Alex, Jeroen, Gido, Psy and Stoney managed to keep most of our stuff dry, even during some of the worst weather.
During the week we spent much time near the campfire, attending lectures and general ‘lamballen’ :).
There were even some small competitions, including a team-based scavenger-hunt, which consisted of weird tasks like eating grass and garlic to solving mathematical problems. Another activity that I’ve spent a lot of time on was the water-rocket competition, where my rocket kept first-place for quite some time, to eventually end in third place. The Photo-website isn’t up yet… (will paste like when it does become available) but there are a few video’s below.
I was invited to visit Zurich for a day. I left from Schiphol airport last sunday evening arriving at KlotenAirport around 19:30 where I was picked up by my old friend Jos Visser. He dropped my off at the fancy Hotel Ambassador where I would be staying, and then we visited a australian pub in the city center for some snacks (alligator sateh on papadums and chicken wings) and drinks. The next morning I was walking around town seeing some of the sights, but sadly it started raining. I do have some nice pictures of Lake Zurich.
[lots of details I might tell later, just not right now 😉 ]
[aug 24th: I will not me moving to Zurich in the foreseeable future]
Just my luck that the train I got back in the Netherlands didn’t go anywhere from Schiphol, due to a broken powerline, so my arrival home was somewhat delayed (taking a detour over Amsterdam, Haarlem and Leiden)
So, CCC Camp 2007 is over, I’m back to work for a few days already, time for a write-up. The entire event had very warm and humid weather. It was mostly dry accept saturday, when the entire field changed into a olympic swimming-pool.
Deckard, Flar and me helped Antarez and Geck0 set-up their tent somewhere deep in the night, after they had to relocate. In the end they got a very nice spot just underneath a large aluminum airplane, giving them some shade.
Most time during the week was spent hanging around the campsite talking to people, having drinks and generally looking for shade/cool areas. The hangars were ideal locations, because they remained quite cool, due to them being covered by a few meters of dirt. We were very glad that we brought along a small cooler to keep our supply of beer, water and coke cold… (It’s now sitting in my computer-room)
There were some interesting projects going on, including building brainmachines, remote-control helicopters, various webcam projects, weather-ballons and light-installations. There was even a project involving light emitting algea, although I think that project didn’t quite turn out the way it was meant to.
Even though in the beginning everything didn’t go exactly as planned, and I heard a lot of complaining I think in the end we all had a lot of fun. Next time we might do it completely different, but I’m sure we’ll all be there again.
(plans for next time include fixxing either a camper, caravan or truck of some sorts, just so we don’t have to bother with tents, and having more space to bring stuff)
So… Flar, Deckardt and me have arrived at CCC-Camp after a week in Berlin City. The hostel was nice, but the wifi stopped working after wednesday, and we never again got decent internet after that. Also the washing-machine wasn’t working very good, so when we decided to do a laundry run before heading out to ccc-camp we ended up with a pile of wet clothes (but clean).
We left the hostel this morning and after a trip to the local bakery we left for Finowfurt, we got there around 10:40 and then proceeded with a walk around the campsite to pick a suitable location for our tents. We ended up building our tents somewhere between some trees, so we could at least get some shade during the day. After setting up our tents we headed back to the village for a short shopping trip, buying large amounts of water, juice and coke. We also got some Berliner Kindl (beer), but had to conclude that the variant we bought was absolutely disgusting.
I’ve spotted most of the people I knew that were coming and have gotten my bearings as to where to find everything.
It’s luckily cooled down a bit now, after we had some light rain (after a week of very hot and humid weather here in Berlin)
We’ll see what else comes along, so far we haven’t attended any lectures or demo’s yet, but there is more then enough happening around here.
At least I have a decent internet connection again, and i’ve got voip running, you can call me on +49 30 8020858 3662 or sip:email@example.com
After a walk down ‘unter den linden’ I finally found another good accesspoint, so i can post another update. Yesterday evening I went on a bar-hop-tour with some roommates. We got to the meetingpoint on Hackishermarkt, and there were about 50 people there. We visited 4 different bars and got some shots in between as well. We ended up at a club called h2o where they played dance and r’n’b… I don’t remember too much, as I was quite drunk, and we moved all over the center.
Today I’ve been driving around the city a bit, but haven’t really done anything yet (accept for sleeping very long).
i’m gonna go and enjoy the nice weather some more and try to find some lunch now… It’ll probably mean more bockworst 🙂
Flar and Deckardt should also arrive this afternoon/evening… So i’ll probably head over to the hostel to welcome them later 🙂
So, it’s summertime again, time for festivals, hacker-camps and a well-needed vacation. I still have a few days of work to go, but will be leaving for Berlin august 1st. I’ll be staying in the Heart Of Gold hostel in the center of Berlin for a week, seeing the sights and partying in this nice city. Later that week I’ll probably hang around and help a bit with the build-up of CCC-Camp and then stay there till Sunday the 12th, because unfortunately I have to be back at work on monday ;(
I know Flar and Deckardt are also in Berlin the week before the Camp, and i’ll meet up with lots more at the Camp (Geck0, Antarez, Buzz, BugBlue, Tla, Elisa, …)
Anyone have any suggestions for places to visit in Berlin, or parties and bars I should visit… This is the first time visiting Berlin that I have a whole week without any other activities, so I plan to make the best of it and see some stuff I didn’t get around to the previous years… comment below 😉
